I've never liked the HP practice of putting an expiration date (relating to service life) on their ink & printhead products (including XL's) instead of just allowing their products to continue to function as designed regardless of age, but function until they actually run out of ink, or failure.
Printer Products are reasonably priced, but consumable components or refills are inappropriately over-priced by volume.

I have an eight-year-old printer. With this new print head, it now works as well as it did the day it came out of the box.

I bought printheads specified for my printer, and after installing them, my printer no longer worked. It was unable to recognize one of the two printheads. Too much back and forth to return items. Went and bought new printer for less than the cartridges cost for my hp printer.

I was certain one of my (no replaceable) ink tubes was clogging but I was delighted to find the problem was in the printhead. Diagnostics didn't alert me to a printhead problem as it did the last time I had to change one. My printer is a 8500A Premium and I'm glad it was repairable because it has been the best printer ever.

I used the print head one tome and got a printer failure message. Attempted reinstall twice with same result.

This print head immediately resolved my printing issues. The tests said the original print head was working. However I saw that it was well beyond the use by date. I printed for many years on the old print head so took a leap of faith that this was causing my printer problems. Well worth the money so another good printer did not go to our landfills.
