• These sunflowers produce orange blooms with a dark centre, held on flat heads close to the stem. • The flowers are large, reaching approximately 15cm in diameter, making them perfect for garden displays or cutting. • The botanical name is Helianthus annuus, and they are commonly known as Sunflower. • In Afrikaans, they are called Sonneblom. • These plants grow best in spring and summer at temperatures between 20-25 degrees Celsius. • Sow seeds at a depth of 3mm, spacing plants 35 x 35cm apart. • Germination typically occurs within 5-10 days, with flowers ready to harvest in 70-90 days.
