Why Bamboo?
Bamboo has a greater sustainability and is more environmentally friendly than other woods. Bamboo can regenerate after harvesting without needing to be replanted.
Strength and durability are two of the highest qualities of bamboo. They are attributed to bamboo's unique structure. It's made up of long, fibrous strands that are tightly woven together, making it resistant to warping, cracking, and other forms of damage. Moreover, bamboo has a high weight-to-strength ratio. This means that it can bear heavy loads without bending or breaking. These features make bamboo ideal for cutting boards that require high strength and durability. Bamboo is also gentle on knives, preserving their sharpness.
How to Care for your Bamboo Cutting Boards
For the first use, just rinse with clean water and wipe dry after use.
Please do NOT soak in water or clean with hot water, avoid direct sunlight. Do NOT use dishwashing liquid or bleach on the boards. Bamboo Cutting boards are not dishwasher safe!
It's essential to wipe it dry immediately after washing/use every time.
Standing the board upright or leaning it against a dish rack allows for proper air circulation and prevents moisture from being trapped.
Washing both sides of the board, even if only one side was used, is recommended to prevent uneven expansion and warping due to moisture absorption.
One side can be designated for raw meats and the other side for vegetables or cooked foods to prevent cross-contamination.
Alternating between sides when using the board can help distribute wear and tear, potentially prolonging the cutting board's lifespan.
Maintenance
Regular Maintenance:
For ongoing care, apply a thin layer of Olive oil or food grade mineral oil whenever the board looks dry or when water is absorbed quickly. Leave oiled overnight to absorb into the fibres.
Frequency:
Generally, once a month is sufficient, but daily use or heavy chopping can necessitate more frequent oiling.
Signs of dryness:
If you notice that the board is starting to look dull or that water is not beading up on the surface, it's time to oil it.
Benefits of oiling:
Oiling helps to prevent the bamboo from drying out, cracking, and warping. It also helps to protect the board from stains and water damage, and it can help to preserve the antimicrobial properties of bamboo.
